* Went to South Africa and India for military expeditions
* learned Woodcraft from Frederick Burnham, an American Scout
* wrote "Aids to Scouting", a manual of lectures on military scouting and wilderness survival
* published in 1908, Scouting for Boys
* tested his theory of scouting to 22 boys on August 1907
* 1909-rally of scouts in London, founded the first girl scouts
* 1920- declared as Chief Scout of the World
* Feb. 22- founder's day, his b-day
* wife= Olave St. Clair Soames
